This special issue is the result of a long-standing ÉRIGAL collaboration. Annabelle and Tina organized a conference in November 2017 that brought together a dozen experts on public security and policing issues in Latin America and the Caribbean. Not only was this event a great success, due to rich and passionate discussions, but it also led to the publication of this special issue in the following pages. This special issue comes out just at a time when police practices are being questioned internationally.
